We are still plugging along at the never ending Kitchen remodel. We have redone the floors, redone the lights, painted the walls, painted the cabinets, changed the hardware, changed the perimeter counters and begun changing appliances. Further below are a few pictures of the new perimeter counters. (I haven’t done the island yet.) I fell in love with all white kitchens especially with the marble counters but I knew marble was not an option I have three kids and a husband that loves to “paint” the kitchen when he makes spaghetti, he does make great spaghetti!
Here is one of my inspiration kitchens along with a great article about living with marble in her kitchen 11 Magnolia Lane

When I knew I wanted a marble look without the headache of marble in the kitchen at first I tried to pick a white granite. Well there really aren’t any true white granites. Most of the white granites had too much color, veining or spotting for the look I was trying to achieve. I then turned to quartz. I had Silestone in my first house and LOVED it! It was virtually maintenance free and looked as elegant as granite.
I started to my research and began my search for the right quartz. If you are looking for a marble alternative read the blog Girl Cooks World she wrote an amazing blog post about the choices available for Marble Alternatives. This was an invaluable resource for me and saved me hours of research and shopping time.
After reading I narrowed it down to two: Silestones Lyra and LG Hausys Viatera Cortina

And LG Hausys Viatera Cortina- This color is exclusive to The Home Depot. I went to The Home Depot and decided the Lyra had too much gray veining and I ultimately chose the Cortina.
This is one of my perimeter counters. I love the subtle veining, it gives it just enough movement and color with out being busy.
We are thrilled with the end result! When it comes to decorating I am usually pretty decisive. I know what I want and I am happy with the final outcome. That does not seem to be the case with tile. I have changed my mind a dozen times. The next part of the remodel is chosing the tile back-splash, or atleast sharing with you some choices since I cannot seem to decide.
